I have thoroughly enjoyed working at In Toto Ed this half term. The students have been working hard and we have started to see several of them complete their vocational qualification portfolios. We welcomed Rochelle, Kirsten, and Josh to the team, and it’s been great to see them embrace the In Toto ethos and build such a strong rapport with both staff and students. Seeing the students so settled and engaged in lessons makes me incredibly proud, particularly as many of them have been on a long journey to get to where they are today.
The school continues to grow, and with the science lab relocated upstairs there is more space in the cookery room, and the gym has moved to a larger space, giving students the opportunity to work out in a decent sized gym. Our Director Simon took a trip to the BETT festival in January, and we have now had two interactive whiteboards installed. Music Teacher Josh has expanded his studio setup significantly, reorganising it to facilitate both music production and live music lessons.
In Toto Exams has been launched and we are now a private exam centre offering external candidates the opportunity to sit GCSEs, A-levels and Functional Skills exams with us. The demand has been much higher than we anticipated and I’m pleased that we have found another way to support young people in the local community.
We have spent time reflecting on what we can do better, and students are now able to use our new sensory room, which has proved incredibly popular.
Additionally, students are now familiar with the Zones of Regulation; Nicola and Josh are training to become Lego Therapists; all classrooms have ergonomic rocker chairs; and we welcomed a new hamster called Beast who now heads up the wellbeing department.
After half term we’ve got a busy few weeks ahead with trips to the Tate Modern, V&A, Science Museum and Mini-Golf at the O2 planned.
As a school, we continue to explore different ways to support our students and at the time of writing, we are exploring more therapeutic avenues as we start to look ahead to the next school year in September.
